About Us

Learn about us!

Alianza Monarca is a multicultural arts collective that supports accessible folklore and arts programming and organizes cultural events in South Philadelphia.

Mission

Our mission is to sustain and amplify the cultural heritage of our community members and foster belonging and connection both within and across cultural groups.

Vision

We envision a South Philadelphia where cultural traditions are living forces that connect generations, bridge communities, and forge networks of collective resilience, mutual support, and community power.

How We Work

We believe relational trust, built through shared cultural life, is the foundation of a resilient community.

Community Parterships

We partner with cultural groups already doing meaningful work, providing in-kind or financial support to help keep their programming accessible.

Responsive Programming

We organize arts and practical workshops that respond to the evolving interests and needs of our community.

Special Events

We host public cultural events to bring the community together and celebrate the work and growth happening across our partnerships and programs.

Our Roots

Alianza Monarca is a newly formalized umbrella for an existing community of artists and organizers engaged in grassroots work. It is grounded in the collaboration between Andrea García Espinal, director of the Mexican folkloric dance group Ñuuxakun, and Alma Figueroa González, who has led community painting workshops for Hispanic families in South Philadelphia since 2021. They connected through a shared commitment to expanding access to arts and cultural opportunities, and began organizing events and opening doors for community members to share their talents.
